Jena arrives in the US

Jena arrives in Washington - thank you to everybody who helped us make this happen!

It is hard to explain but it seems like ages - well thinking about it now, it actually is ages!

I last saw Jena way back on February the 2nd as I was frantically tying up the dogs to load them into the back of a rather worn out taxi come mini van, with just hours to go before we pulled out of the town of Nowzad.

As the dust cloud settled from the tyres of the taxi as it shot off across the potted desert track and into the distance, I really didn't know if the dogs would actually make it to safety.

Being back home and watching events unfold through the Internet over the last few months has been the most frustrating time of my life. Finally receiving the news that Jena, Nowzad and Tali plus 11 of the original 14 puppies made the rescue was such a relief, but of course at the same time heart breaking as we then knew that RPG and little AK had some how got lost along the way and we would never know what had happened to them. The photo of me and RPG sharing breakfast in another world will always be with me.

But nearly 4 months on now, with a sent box full of hastily written emails and lots of international phone calls and finally we can truly say that one of the dogs is at last REALLY safe.

Jena touched down in New York on the 15th June, after being flown to the US. Not sure how much she liked being on an aeroplane, but the reports from Jena's new owners in the States when they collected her from customs control was that her tail was wagging and she was happy! Like Royalty, she sat on the back seat of the car as she was driven to her new home in Washington.

It just seems so mad - Jena is now in Washington! I remember it as clear as if it was just yesterday when she was sat on her hind legs by the door of the small mud built room that served as a kitchen in Nowzad, waiting for any scraps of food that the lads would throw her way, (of which they always did!), her barky little yelp as I left her in her run for a few hours to do what Marines actually came to Afghanistan to do!

Mad - that's what it is - Jena is now in the States - thank you so much to everyone who has supported us - brilliant. It makes it all worthwhile!
